Gardens of Wonder and Inspiration
Southern California
Casa Romantica is a testament to California’s rich architectural heritage and natural beauty. This Spanish Colonial Revival estate, built in 1927 by San Clemente founder Ole Hanson, captures the essence of the California dream with its terracotta roofs, whitewashed walls, seamless integration, beautiful landscaping, and breathtaking coastline.
The 2.5-acre estate offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, making it Southern California’s most exquisite bluff-top destination.
The landscaping at Casa Romantica, expertly designed by Bemus Landscape, transforms this historic property into a botanical paradise. What began with Ole Hanson’s initial plantings has evolved into a tapestry of over 30 distinct gardens that celebrate California’s unique coastal environment while emphasizing water conservation and native plant species.

Perhaps most remarkable is the historic Yucca plant, planted by Ole Hanson himself in 1927, which continues to thrive in the Bluff Top Gardens nearly a century later.
On the property’s perimeter, rare Monterey First trees frame the Woodland Garden, creating a peaceful transition between cultivated spaces and wild coastal nature.
Bemus is the landscape maintenance company for one of my most densely populated communities that I manage. There are a lot of pathways and green belts that can often take a beating by the children and animals roaming around. Bemus does a great job of keeping the community looking beautiful. Megan Hewitt checks in on customer satisfaction on a regular basis. That extra touch makes the board very happy!

The landscaping design ensures that Casa Romantica is filled with new colors, textures, and fragrances each season. As golden California sunlight filters through the foliage and the gentle Pacific breeze carries the scent of native sages and coastal blooms, visitors experience the same inspiration that captivated Ole Hanson nearly a century ago.
